Mangalore, Oct 31, 2014: The District Congress paid homage to former prime minister Indira Gandhi on the occasion of her death anniversary, at a ceremony held at the District Congress office on October 31, Friday. B Ramanatha Rai, District in-charge Minister and several other party leaders paid floral tributes to the portrait of the late prime minister.
In his address, Rai recalled the achievements of the late prime minister who he said was instrumental in bringing significant changes in the policies of the nation.
Apparently taking a dig at the BJP which had tried to eclipse Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary by organising Sardar Patel birth anniversary celebrations on a large scale, Rai said each and every citizen of this land should respect those who have laid down their lives for the cause of the nation.
Congress leaders including Kodijal Ibrahim, Interim District Congress President, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, Shashidhar Hegde, former mayor, PV Mohan, TK Sudhir and others were present.
