District Congress observes Nehru’s 48th death anniversary

Mangalore, May 27, 2012: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DKDCC) observed the 48th death anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, first prime minister of independent India, on May 27, Sunday.

Nehru, who became the PM on Aug 15, 1947, held his post till his death in May 27, 1964. He is believed to have died of cardiac arrest. He was among the leading freedom fighters of India.

Ivan D’Souza, secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), spoke of the various contributions of Nehru to the country.

Prominent Congress leaders Kodijal Ibrahim, vice president of the DKDCC; Shashidhar Hegde and K. Ashraf, former mayors; Suresh Ballal, former MUDA president; Nazeer Bajal and H. M. Ashraf, chief organizers of Seva Dal; and others were also present.
