Mangaluru, Dec 22, 2015 : Chaos prevailed due to frequent traffic snarls on the Mangaluru-Udupi NH stretch on December 21, Monday, thanks to the inordinate delay in the completion of the Baikampady over bridge works.
Long queues of vehicles were seen on either sides of the road and two 108 ambulances carrying patients to hospitals had to virtually struggle to move ahead.
Though asphaltation of the over bridge is complete, the embankment works are pending. On Monday however no work was held on the new over bridge. It is nothing but an irony that people travelling on the Mangaluru-Udupi route are put to great inconvenience due to the delay in the works.
As if this is insuffice, the nearby shops and hotels are left to inevitably cope with the thick cloud of dust emanating from the area as the authorities have virtually made no effort to solve the problem, at least by sprinkling water.
The traffic problem is further aggravated with the several vehicles heading towards industrial area which move haphazardly. The parking of trucks and trailers on roadside on Baikampady-Panambur Road despite a ban to the same, too has added to the problem.
Udupi- Mangalore Highway is the worst ever. Baikampady junction is heavily filled with vehicles, the traffic is snarled due to the bad roads.
Without completing the bridge and service road how can they collect toll? Ministers and govt officials are exempted from tax, everytime common man has to suffer. toll charges are also high. Rs 45 for (outside DK ) vehicles that too for 18 kms unscientific road. Not a single kms of road are in proper condition. You can feel the difference when u travel from udupi to Mangalore when u enter this stretch. Pathetic
The NH 66 work is being delayed and the accidents are increasing in the roads day to day . There is no one to question. Only the common people are the ones who are facing the problem. From so many years the roads are in the same condition . But now the Traffic Jam is the main problem.
