Mangaluru, Nov 01, 2015: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurated the UGC approved Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra at the Loyola Centre for Research and Innovation of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) on October 31, Saturday. Two new auditoriums of the Centre were also inaugurated to coincide with the occasion by DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai. The auditoriums are named after Fr L F Rasquinha, former principal and Rector of St Aloysius Institutions and Fr Robert Sequeira, former Member of the Department of Chemistry.
In his address, the MP said the Kaushal Kendra has been set up as part of the Skill India Programme of the Union Government. Stating that St Aloysius College was among the 48 colleges selected for the Programme in the country and one among the two top colleges from the state, he congratulated the institution for its endeavour.
Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC highlighted the role of skill based education in the modern world.
Fr Denzil Lobo, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions presided over the function. MLC Ivan D’Souza and Dr T D Kemparaju, Registrar of Mangalore University were present as chief guests. Fr Swebert D’Silva, Principal of St Aloysius College Fr Praveen Martis, Director of the Kaushal Kendra, Fr Xavier Alphonse, Founder Director of Indian Centre for Research and Development of Community Education, Walter D’Souza, former chairman of Federation of Indian Export Organizations, Southern Region and others were present.
