Decongest roads in Udupi, demand at council meeting

Udupi, Oct  1, 2016: Parking areas in Udupi, in front of Raj tower and Big Bazaar will be converted into a no-parking zone. This decision was taken in the monthly meeting of the council of Udupi city municipal council on Thursday. The demand was unanimously made by all the members, as the parking was creating congestion on the road leading to Manipal from Udupi.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, president of CMC said, "Raj tower is an important landmark in the city. It is situated opposite to the city bus stand. There are also many houses nearby and the parked vehicle block their way. ’No parking’ boards are not at all effective here. It creates a road block as it is a U-turn junction for the people coming from Manipal."

Janardhan Banarkar, Congress council member said, "The four floor building is not using its parking space for parking purpose. Instead, they have put up shops there which must be removed." Manjunathayya, commissioner said, "These shops in the parking lot have door numbers and the case in in the court."
