Mangaluru, July 15, 2015 : The walls of the Kulur bridge are found damaged, motorists are at risk while travelling on the old Kuloor Bridge on the busy National Highway 66. The NHAI - National Highways Authority of India, is maintaining the highway on the stretch, it appears to have turned a blind eye to the grave threat to motorists.
Lack of maintenance : The bridge, situated on the lane towards Mangaluru city from Udupi, was constructed about six decades ago. Insufficient maintenance and lack of periodical repairs have considerably damaged the bridge.
The steep curve on the approach to this bridge from Panambur-side is also said to be the reason for vehicles ramming into the walls. The NHAI did not redesign the approach road after taking over the maintenance of the highway. NHAI project director of Mangaluru region was not available for comments despite repeated attempts.
