Addressing the protestors,  Prof. Narendra Nayak, President of Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations  alleged that  meritorious students of Dalit  communities  who were pursuing higher education were being offended ever since BJP government came to power at the Centre. The Sangh Parivar has a hidden agenda behind this, he alleged.

Urging the government to conduct an impartial probe into the suicide Vemula, Prof. Nayak said caste and communal issues might have played a role in the suicide.

Prof. Nayak said he himself had been a witness to  atrocities on backward class students at Hyderabad University and suspected all these as a move to  drive out Dalits and backward class  students from the higher educational  institutions.

Eminent thinker Prof. Bhoomigowda, DSS leader M Devaraj, DYFI State President Muneer Katipalla, PUCL leader PB D’Sa and many others addressed the protestors.
