Mangalore, Oct 28, 2011:  The DYFI (district unit) organized a protest in front of the DC’s office on Oct 27 Thursday condemning former MCC mayor Shankar Bhat’s allegation that the DYFI collected Rs. 500 from each person who participated in the protest held in front of the MCC building a few days back demanding homes and sites for the homeless.

It may be recalled that Bhat had stated at the council meeting held on Oct 26 Wednesday that the DYFI had sold copies of applications for Rs. 500 each to the people who had participated in the protest.

DYFI Vice President Muneer Katipalla said in his protest address that Bhat is attempting to paint their protest in the wrong colors. Condemning apathy of all concerned officers, he said that such as irresponsible statement made by Mr. Bhat has lowered the reputation of the MCC council. He also demanded an apology from Mr. Bhat.

The protestors also burned an effigy of the former mayor.
