DYFI Deputy President Muneer Katipalla said in his protest speech that the number of homeless people is on the rise because of the activities of the MSEZ and also because of the luxury constructions of real estate companies. Stating that house rent rates have shot up along with the rise in the prices of essential commodities, he said that common people can no longer afford to own sites and construct houses owing to this.

Flaying the BJP government for celebrating its 1000th day of coming to power, he urged the government not to forget that more people have lost their property and come to the streets during these 1000 days. Referring to CM Yeddyurappa’s statement that the Congress had not launched any development projects like the BJP has, he urged the CM to bear in mind that the BJP will not come to power for another 200 years if it continues with its present anti people policies.

He also said that DC Subodh Yadav and District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar are unaware that applications for plots have piled up at the Mangalore City Corporation. He warned that the DYFI will not only protest, but will not allow the concerned authorities to move freely on the streets. Urging the ministers to remember that the votes of the poor are just as valuable as the votes of the rich, he said that they must stop discriminating against the poor.

Criticizing the CM’s habit of sanctioning large amounts of money for temples and for spending a lot on black magic rituals, he demanded to know that the CM intends to do about the adverse affects of people’s pain on him.

DYFI leaders Ashok Samsheer, Santhosh Basheer, and others were also present.
