KPRS District President K. R. Shriyan said that the protestors are demanding immediate processing of all pending applications regarding housing sites. People have submitted at least 7000 application forms through the DYFI and 4000 applications through KPRS. He also wanted to know why the district administration, which finds it easy to allot hundreds of acres to industrialists and builders, finds it so difficult to provide land for farmers. He said that the DYFI and KPRS will protest till all landless families are provided land and houses.

DYFI President Muneer Katipalla said that there are 17,000 families without title deeds in the district and 48,000 families without land. Pointing out the fact that the state government had stated in its election manifesto that it will provide houses for 2 lakh homeless families in the state, he said that the government has failed to rehabilitate even the flood victims of north Karnataka.

The DYFI and KPRS also demanded immediate implementation of the House Rent regulation Act, the formation of taluk-wise Akrama Sakrama Darkhastu Committees, protection of Kumki land rights of farmers, and others.

A large number of farmers and DYFI members participated in the protest rally, which was taken from Town Hall to the DC’s office. DYFI and KPRS leaders Mahabala Shetty, Ashok Shetty, Comrade Vasudev, Sukanya, Narayan Shetty, and others were also present.
