Puttur, July 17, 2012 : D. V. Sadananda Gowda, former chief minister of Karnataka, visited Puttur for the first time on July 16, Monday after giving up the post of chief minister and addressed the gathering at a special welcome ceremony organized in his honor by the BJP at Bunts Bhavan in Puttur.

DVS said that he could have hung on to the chief minister’s post for some more days, but decided to give it up because he did not want to wreck the state’s administrative machinery and wished to provide clean, transparent, and corruption-free governance to the people.

Acknowledging that his political success is only because of the encouragement and affection of the people of Puttur, the former chief minister said that his party has given him all that it could give him.

He said that he had held 22 portfolios as the chief minister of Karnataka and that his government had cleared 54 lakh applications in just 3 months through the Sakala Scheme, launched to prevent corruption. He also said that he has released Rs. 51 crore as compensation from the CM’s fund.


Speaking on the occasion, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that DVS has made his district proud by providing corruption-free, clean, and transparent governnance to the public. He has released Rs. 500 crore for development projects throughout the district and has done his best for the people. By gracefully giving up his post, he has proven that he considers the BJP party to be  more important than its individual members, he added.


Among the dignitaries on the dais were Vishweshwar Bhat, member of the state BJP committee; Pratap Simha Nayak, former president of the district BJP; Shambu Bhat, president of the Taluk Panchayat; Rukmayya Poojary, former MP of Vittla; and many others.


The former chief minister was given a grand welcome. His supporters displayed banners and burst firecrackers in his honor. They took him on an open-jeep procession along the main streets of Puttur. MP Mallika Prasad, Padmanabha Kottari, Kishore Kumar, president of the district BJP Yuva Morcha, and entrepreneur Ashok Kumar honored Mr. Gowda.


Mr. Gowda had arrived at Gundya from Bangalore in the morning, and BJP workers in Gundya had grandly welcomed him there. A motorcade, arranged by the BJP had then accompanied him to Nellyadi and Uppinangady. Mr. Gowda received a warm welcome in Uppinangady, after which he visited the Sahasralingeshwara Temple and continued on his journey to Puttur.
