Mangalore, Mar 20: Speaking at the annual fruit and flower exhibition jointly organized by the Horticulture Department, Siri, and Zilla Panchayat at Kadri Park on Saturday, Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat said that the state government has sanctioned Rs. 4 crore to DK in the last four years under the National Horticulture Mission (NHM) along with financial assistance to around 25,000 farmers.

Further, he said that farmers will receive assistance worth Rs. 40,000 if they own one hectare of land and added that the state government has granted Rs. 5,000 each to 4,000 farmers in each taluk. He also said that Rs. 1000 crore has been earmarked to desilt tanks for the purpose of irrigation.

Stating that parks should be developed in every Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) ward, he urged each family to grow kitchen gardens in and around their houses. He also said that the Horticulture Department might reward the best parks and best kitchen gardens.

The 2-day flower show, which was to have concluded on Sunday, will be extended this Tuesday. The flower show, with its World Cup model made of roses, has attracted a large number of people. Highlights of the show include pumpkin carvings depicting Krishna Palemar, CM Yeddyurappa, the president of India, and many more.
