Mangalore, April 12: IGP Gopal Hosur informed journalists during a press conference held in the police guest house today that the police have been successful in nabbing burglars and members of an underworld gang who were planning to murder an advocate.

Members of an underworld gang arrested 

IGP Gopal B Hosur said during the same press conference that a Dakshina Kannada District Special Investigation Bureau Police team arrested 12 people associated with a notorious underworld gang. 

The arrested are Narayana Salyan (46) of Belthangady, Abdul Nazeer (34) of Harekala, Muhammad Faisal Ibraheem Shaikh (28) of Mumbai, Rohan Firoz Khan (21) of Mumbai, Mangesh Aravind (21) of Chembur, Lokesh Ameen (26) of Jokatte, Abhishek Ameen (24) of Bikarnakatte, Abdul Nasir (26) of Someshwara, Abdul Hakeem (33) of Munnoor Grama, Abdul Azeez (25) of Munnoor Grama, Sameer Hamsa (25) of Someshwara, and Muhammad Jamaluddeen (29) of Kotekar.

Hosur informed media people that the police have confiscated weapons, ammunitions, mobile phones, and vehicles including a Tavera and a Maruti Omni from the accused. He also said that the gang was conspiring to create communal unrest in the region by killing an advocate and claiming that it was a killing done in revenge for the murder of a renowned advocate last year. 

One of the members of the gang informed the police when the others were getting ready to murder the advocate, who has his offices in the vicinity. 

The police conducted an in-depth investigation on the matter and came to the conclusion that the same gang had masterminded the kidnap of a jewelry shop owner in Mangalore. 

The police team responsible for these arrests is Prakash, the PSI of DK District Special Investigation Bureau, and Constables Anand, Bhaskar Kamath, Mohammed Iqbal, and many others, who operated under the guidance of IGP Gopal Hosur and Acting Superintendent of DK Police R Ramesh. Each member of the team received a cash award of Rs 20,000 from the police department.


Bantwal police arrest burglars


Bantwal police arrested two people and confiscated 1.25kg of jewelry worth Rs 22 hundred thousand on April 12, Monday. The arrested have been involved in the burglaries of 28 houses in DK and Kasargod districts.

The arrested are Murugan alias Kalimutthu alias Kodangala Swami (41) and Balakrishna alias Babu (33) of Tirunalvali district of Tamil Nadu. The burglars, along with their accomplices, were arrested by the Udupi police 2 years ago; but they had escaped imprisonment by obtaining temporary bail. 

IGP Gopal B Hosur said that the police conducted the arrest on the basis of secret information given by Valerian Felix Pinto of Panjekallu Village of Bantwal taluk. He also said that the jewelry was retrieved from Tamil Nadu after consulting with the police offers of Tamil Nadu.

Bantwal Police Circle Inspector K Nanjunde Gowda led the police team, which conducted the arrest. The successful police team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each. The IGP and the SP felicitated Mr. Felix Pinto for helping the police nab the burglars.
