Belagavi, Nov 25, 2017: DK district and Forests Minister B. Ramanath Rai was forced to end a government programme quickly after an attack by wild bees in Machche village near Belagavi on Nov 24, Friday. The bees attacked the crowd that had gathered for the inauguration of a bio-diversity park.
The Minister, who was among the few people who got stung, attended the Assembly session later. Officials suspect that the constant buzzing sound from a drone camera could have disturbed the bees.
“The bees stung around six to seven persons. The Minister might have gotten stung, but it was not serious. In fact, in a few minutes, he went to the Suvarna Soudha and took part in the discussions,” Krishna Udupudi, Conservator of Forests, Belagavi region, said.
The 300-acre bio-diversity park is named after Salu Marada Thimmakka. Abutting the VTU university campus. It has been developed at an estimated Rs. 2 crore.
It is among the 50 tree parks in urban areas, meant to serve as lung spaces and recreation spots.
