Mangaluru, Jan 29, 2016  : The office of the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, is now powered by ’solar power’ since January 26. It will be the first government building in the district to do so.  The consumption of power is among the highest in the office of the Deputy Commissioner.


DK DC’s office in Mangaluru is solar poweredApart from the office of the Deputy Commissioner, this three-storeyed complex houses the offices of the District Treasury, Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies and that of Environment Minister B. Ramanath Rai.

A few days ago, 100 solar panels were installed on the roof of the complex at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh. With these panels, they hope to harvest 25kV power every month. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar said that since January 26, they had saved 64 units of power.

ADC Kumar said that the solar panels were installed out of the funds allotted from area development schemes of Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, and Ivan D’Souza, MLC.  He also said they are planning to have solar panels in other government offices in the district.
