Mangaluru, June 02, 2018: District Health Officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao has urged people to take precautionary measures against spread of infectious diseases during monsoons.
Addressing press persons at the District Health Office on June 2 on account of Malaria Awareness Month, he suggested that people to immediately get their blood tests done if they develop health problems along with fever. Anyone needing assistance can contact 9448556872, he said.
Steps are being taken to spray mosquito repellents in areas where mosquitoes are likely to breed. Volunteers from health department are also visiting construction sites once in 15 days, awareness programmes are also being held at all levels. The Department has also got adequate stock of anti-malaria medicines, he added.
He urged people to use mosquito nets and added 48,000 pest repellent mosquito nets have been provided to BPL families of the district on behalf of the government in 2017. This year so far 10,500 nets have been distributed in rural areas, 64,500 nets will be distributed in urban areas, he added.
The health officer informed that there have been 83 Dengue cases in the district this year from January to May. Last year there were 136 Dengue cases, he added.
From January to April, a total of 74,553 blood samples have been tested for Malaria of which 836 were positive for Malaria, he said.
Builders have also been asked to maintain cleanliness at construction sites. So far notices have been served to 12 builders, he added.
