Mangalore, Jan 15: The District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) arrested 6 persons for diesel theft on Jan 14, Thursday. The culprits used the Mangalore –Bangalore petro net pipeline belonging to Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) for their activities.

The arrested are Edward Mecri D’Souza (42) of Kana, Suratkal; Avil Cohelo (48) of Tannirbhavi, Mangalore; Chandrashekar (33) of Katakeri village, Madikeri; and Chinnayya (35) and Thammayya (21) of Karkinje, Belthangady.

The 6 thieves used the valve in the petro net pipeline, after making a hole in it near Periadka  Santyaya Lake of Padhuvettu village, Belthangady. They also gave a connection to it for around 200 – 300 meters from the spot in order to steal the diesel. 

Timmayya, the owner of M S Pai petrol bunk, Madikeri and Ramesh, a broker from Hassan are absconding; the police have yet to confiscate around 12000 litres of diesel from them. The police has also seized an Alto with registration number KA 20 MA 9669, a Santro with registration number KA 19 Z 9790, a sum of Rs 1, 86, 000, a Reliance cordless phone, a communication box, a tanker, a drilling machine, and a meter gauge.

The operation was led by DCIB Inspector Venkatesh Prasanna and ASI Narayan Maniyani as per the orders of Superintendent of Police Dr A Subramanyeshwar Rao and under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police R Ramesh. The teams comprised Constables Shashidhar Shetty, Santhish Padil, Ganesh Manya, Ganesh Kalladka, Chandra Adhur, Chethan Botyady, Dharmendra, Dinesh Bekal, Kumar, Prashanth and driver Shantha Shetty and Devayya.

The petrol bunk, which sold stolen commodities, will be closed from tomorrow; and its license will be cancelled. Belthangady Police have registered a case against the 6 under crime no. 6/2010 section 379, 427 IPC and 15(2), Petroleum and Minerals Act 1962.
