Mangalore, Aug 12: Several issues were discussed during the meeting of engineers chaired by DC V. Ponnuraj and convened to review progress in calamity relief work in the conference hall of the DC’s office on Aug 12, Thursday.

Regarding the pending work on infrastructure under the MP Lad Scheme and MLA Lad Development Scheme, the DC said that bills on infrastructure work from 2003 – 04 are pending. He also said that there are a total of 5,500 complete and pending infrastructure projects.

Saying that roads cannot be classified as good or bad, he said that engineers are taking years to complete projects worth Rs. 50,000 – Rs. 1,00,000. The government had instructed the suspension of engineers for not submitting bills on completed projects, he said adding that the errant engineers will not be suspended, but payments will not be done either unless they submit the completion report.

Engineers who do not produce good results will also not be paid, he said adding that engineers will not be paid more than they deserve. Engineers are also required to place permanent boards including details after completing the work, he said.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain, Additional Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma, Engineer Satyanarayana, and Vasanth Bangera were also present.
