Mangalore, February 25: The RTO held an adalat on Feb 25, Thursday, in the DC office, during it was decided to take strict action against bus drivers and conductors who use mobile phones while on duty. V Ponnuraj, the district commissioner, warned that the licenses of bus drivers and conductors who violate the law will be cancelled.

The DC also spoke in favor of regularly checking buses to ensure that they were in good working condition. Urging conductors and bus drivers to be polite to commuters, he warned them that citizens have the right to lodge complaints with photographs and relevant documentation in cases of violation of the above-mentioned rules. 

Mr. Ponnuraj also instructed bus drivers and conductors to use their Identity Cards and maintain log books. He encouraged the police department to deal sternly with any bus employee who violates the laws. 

Simultaneously, the commissioner encouraged the public to voice its opinion with regard to the issue of introducing KSRTC buses on city routes and 6 KSRTC buses along the Mangalore – Udupi route as a pilot project. 

Superintendent of Police A S Rao; Purushottam of RTO; Karumbaiah, the divisional controller of KSRTC; and B G Bandary, the deputy superintendent, private bus operators, owners, and office bearers of the Employees’ Association were also present during the meeting.
