DC directs officials to act tough against illegal sand mining

Mangaluru, Jan 7, 2016 : Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim has directed the officials to take immediate action against unauthorised sand mining activities in the district.


dc ibrahimPresiding over the District Task Force Committee meeting here on January 6, Wednesday,  he said   a total of 301 officials of different departments have been empowered to take action against illegal sand mining.

Nagendrappa, senior officer in the Department of Mines and Geology  informed the meeting that a  total of 19 sand mining bars including  7 on Netravathi river banks  and 12 on Gurupur river banks were identified during 2015-15.


The same had also secured environment clearance certificate, he said adding  permit was granted to 168 persons to  mine sand from  Coastal Regulation Zone Areas.

He said during 2016-17,  a total of 18 sand bars including  six on Netravathi river banks and 12   on Gurupur river banks have been permitted. So far 242 people have been granted permits while the total applications received is 651, he added.
