Cyril Sequeira conferred ‘Konkani Kutam Bahrain’ Award

Mangalore, July 27, 2014: Cyril Gregory Sequeira popularly known as CGS Tacode is conferred with "Konkani Kutum Baharain’ award by ’Konkani Kutam, Bahrain’ for his lifetime of dedicated service to Konkani literature, at a programme at St. Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Hall in Bendore on Saturday, July 26.

Columnist Dr. Narendra Rai Derla, Konkani Kutum Convener Richard Moras, Goa Konkani Academy president Pundalik Naik and eminent Konkani writer Eddie Netto present on the occasion.

Mr. Sequeira, who started his writing career at the age of twelve, has written articles and books but he is known more for contribution to humour writing. His humour column is Fugetyo Fokannam. His books include Grahachaar, Sursuryo, Kuchilyo, Maskiryo, Chirmulyo, Hai Hai Dubai, Bullbulle, Sullsulle, Thambde Gulle. Konkani Kutam said in a press release that his humour writings have satire, caution and are a reflection of society.

Mr. Sequeira also worked as the editor of Konkani magazines — Kannik, Umallo and as a sub-editor at Raknno. Besides dabbling in poetry and translations, he has also penned plays such as Mary Magdel, Chaar Disancho Sansar, Haschengi Rodchem, Badyachi Baail, Pitull, Eklem Ekchurem, Girgi Mirsang and Diana.

His short story collection Dukaam and play Pitull, have won recognition from the Goa Bhasha Mandal. He also bagged Daiji Dubai Award, Sandesha Award and Konkani Academy Book Award.

Born in 1951, in a place near Moodbidri, he worked in Dubai and Qatar and now lives in Mangalore. He is married to Sylvia and the couple has two children.
