Mangaluru, Jan 15, 2015: Iranian saffron weighing 10.60 kg and valued at nearly Rs 12.72 lakhs was seized by customs officials from a Kasargod man at the Mangalore International Airport on January 15, Thursday. There were a total of 424 packets of saffron, each weighing 25 grams.
The accused named Mohammad Riyaz of Mogral Puttur had arrived by the Air India Express flight from Dubai at 8 am when he was arrested. The officials found the saffron hidden amid the clothes and other things in his baggage.
The arrest was made by the customs officials under the supervision of N Udaya Shanker, Assistant Commissioner of Customs. D Purushottam, Commissioner of Customs is guiding further investigations into the case.
