Customs officials at MIA seize gold worth Rs 41lakh

Mangaluru, Feb 26, 2019 : Custom officials at Mangaluru International Airport have seized gold worth Rs 41 lakh from two passengers who arrived from Dubai flight.

The officials have siezed 925.540 grams worth Rs 31.10 lakh, concealed as mercury coated plates inside motor of electrical toy car. The passenger arrived from Dubai by AirIndia Express IX384 on February 25. They have  also seized foreign origin gold (in powder/paste form) concealed in the rectum of another passenger, who arrived from Dubai by Spice Jet flight SG60 on February 24. Gold weighing 304.920 grams worth Rs 10.30 lac was confiscated.  A total worth of Rs 41 lakh was seized.

Both the passengers have been taken to custody. Investigations are underway.
