A group of people had staged a protest over CAA defying prohibitory orders by the city police. Police had resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd who had turned violent. Continued standoff between the protesters and the police compelled the administration to declare curfew in major pockets of Mangaluru.

Police used teargas after protesters resorted to stone pelting targeting the police personnel at State Bank and Nellikai Road on Thursday evening.

The curfew is declared in five police station limits - Bunder, Kadri, Barke, Urva and Pandeshwar. The situation was normal till afternoon but suddenly a group of miscreants started pelting stones at the police in State Bank area.
