Covid-19 epidemic gaining momentum in Karnataka, 17 new cases on Wednesday

Bengaluru, April 15, 2020: The Covid-19 epidemic in Karnataka is slowly gaining momentum with a spurt of 17 new corona positive cases on Wednesday, taking the total to 277.

 

Since the state recorded its first case on March 9, this was the highest number of cases recorded in a day.

The death toll touched 11 with the passing away of a 65-year-old male patient, a resident of Chikkaballapur, who was referred from a private hospital in Bengaluru to a COVID-19 designated hospital late on Monday with a complaint of being H1N1 positive, a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with obstructive sleep apnea and past history of diabetes and hypertension, the midday health bulletin issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare said.

Of the 17 fresh corona positive cases, ten are from Mysuru alone. Of those 10, nine are from the Jubilant Generics pharmaceutical company at Nanjangudu. The other case from Mysuru is of a 72-year-old male with a history of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

Two cases were reported from Bangalore Urban district. Of this, one patient, a native of Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh was found to have a history of SARI.

Two cases from Vijayapura were contacts of a corona positive patient and both are admitted at the designated hospital at Vijayapura.

Of the two cases reported from Bagalkot, one is a contact of a positive patient and the other is of a policeman who was posted on duty at a madrasa at Mudhol.

One case reported from Kalburgi is of a one-year-old boy with a history of an influenza-like illness. More details on this case are awaited from the health officials.
