Corporators to protest against property tax hike

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, April 26: Vijay Kumar Shetty, the former MLA, told reporters that the unscientific Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) makes it difficult for citizens to construct houses within city limits and that District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar has failed to keep his promises of making amendments to the CDP. He also added that the corporators condemn the property tax hike of 15 percent with effect from April 1.

He also flayed MCC Commissioner Dr. Vijayprakash for failing to prevent the ruling party for making their moves regarding CDP and property tax hike. He also alleged that the commissioner was just a puppet in the hands of BJP leaders.

Lancelot Pinto, the MCC opposition leader, said that the MCC has already collected money for solid waste management for this month although the project of managing solid waste has not even been launched within city limits. Shashidhar Hegde, the former mayor, said that the CDP was passed before discussing it at the council meeting.

Mr. Shetty said all corporators will protest in front of the DC’s office on May 12 with the help of hotel owners, merchants’ unions, and shop owners.
