Cops prevent 69 vehicles of pilgrims from heading towards Dharmasthala

Belthangady, June 20, 2021: As many as 69 vehicles from other districts  which were reportedly heading towards Dharmasthala were sent back by the police on duty at the Gundya checkpost late night  on June 19, Saturday.

Most of the  vehicles were cars and people travelling in these vehicles had tried to mislead the police stating they were going towards Mangaluru for medical reasons. Later police learnt that all vehicles were heading towards Dharmasthala, and have sent them back.

It has been gathered that people from other districts, mainly tourists have been trying to enter Dakshina Kannada district without any valid reason in the present Covid times.

There have been reports that large number of people from other districts have been trying to visit Subrahmanya and Dharmasthala shrines despite the strict Covid guidelines.

The DC has already instructed the officials to seize all such vehicles and also to have additional check posts at Periyashanthi and Charmady.
