Udupi, Apr 14, 2018 : A person who was convicted in a rape case on a minor, hurled shoes as well as abuses against the Special Public Prosecutor in the case just as the Udupi District Special POCSO Court pronounced the quantum of punishment to the person on April 12. The court had sentenced him to 20 years jail and a fine of Rs 25,000.
The convict is Prashanth Kulal alias Pachhu alias Mani (32). Luckily the APP managed to avoid the shoe from hitting him.
Prashanth had sexually abused a 15 year old girl from Kundapur who had come to purchase fruits and flowers to be offered to the local shrine, on the night of February 17, 2013. The man offered to give her a lift and took her to his home. When his mother opposed, he took her to the residence of a relative at Perdoor. The next morning, he had raped the girl when the occupants of the house were away.
The then Kundapur Circle Inspector Diwaker PM had field the chargesheet, A total of 15 witnesses were heard in the case.
Just before the court could pronounce the quantum of punishment the Special Public Prosecutor had sought maximum punishment to Prashanth as he was an accused in several other cases too. This is learnt to have angered Prashanth resulting in the incident.
Even the Udupi Lawyers Association has considered this issue seriously.
