Kasargod, Sep 22, 2017: A young woman, a post graduate student from Uduma Karippody Kaniyambady who had gone missing on July 10 and had reportedly got converted to Islam, has re-embraced Hinduism. She has now claimed that pressure from classmates forced her to go for conversion.
The woman named Athira was found near Kannur bus stand on July 27 when it came to light that she had a new name Ayesha. When produced before the JMFC Court at Hosadurga she had claimed that she had embraced Islam out of her own will after being attracted towards its philosophy. She was subequently placed at the shelter for women at Paravanadka.
As her parents had earlier filed a habeas corpus petition, the High Court asked her to return to her parents. But she refused and had decided to go with a friend. However, as the relative of the friend had a criminal case, she was allowed to go with her parents with the condition that they permitted her to live as per Islamic tenets. She later joined Arsha Vidya Samaj at Ernakalum and has now claimed that she has returned to Hinduism.
