Udupi, April 30, 2016: According to a media release from Manipal University on Apr 29, Friday, ’International Noise Awareness Day’ programme, organised by the Department of Speech and Hearing, School of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University, along with Suvasa Art Gallery, Kalakshetra and Rotary Club; K. Annamalai, Superintendent of Police, at Suvas Art Gallery in Guddeangadi said that spreading awareness on noise pollution is a collective responsibility and it cannot be left to the law enforcement agency alone. If there is greater awareness, quality of life can get better.
SP Annamalai also distributed ear protection devices to traffic police personnel of Udupi district, as part of the programme.
Art contest : Art contest too was held on the occasion, with 20 students taking part. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the painting competition on the theme: "Noise: A Nuisance."
This was followed by a brief lecture on creating awareness among the public on the adverse effects of noise.
The lecture was held by Prof Bhargavi, assistant professor, Department of Speech and Hearing, SOAHS. It was attended by about 200 people from in and around Guddeangadi.
Niranjan from Chitrakala Mandir, Bharathesh Adiraj, governor of Rotary District 3180, Udayashankar, professor, Department of Geology, Manipal Institute of Technology, Krishna Y., HoD of Speech and Hearing, SOAHS, and Dinesh Shetty, president, Rotary Club of Parkala, participated.
