Conman arrested for luring women into his love trap, robbing jewels

Kaup, Aug 12, 2014:  Shirva police have arrested a conman who used to cleverly rob jewellery of  women  after befriending them and  taking  them for an outing. The arrest was made on August 11, Monday and the accused has been identified as Stephen Arun Almeida(33), a resident of Bantakallu-Heroor near Shirva.

Police have seized a mangalasutra chain weighing three and a half sovereigns from him. He was trapped on suspicion when he was found lurking suspiciously while the Shirva inspector Ashok P was on patrol at Belman Janthra-Pelattakatte.

Based on the  revelations made by the accused, police  seized a 12 gram mangalasutra which he sold at  a jewellery shop in Mangalore.

His modus operandi was to first lure women to his  love trap and in case situation was favourable used to take them for an outing. He used to spend liberally on the women and finally   cash and jewellery from them on some pretext.

Police have also gathered that Almeida had two cases against him in Udupi and one each in Manipal and Pandeshwar police station.

The seized gold is said to be belonging to a woman from Pandeshwar.Further investigations are underway.
