Congressman beats youths in Shivalli

Udupi, Feb 20, 2018: Close on the heels of suspended youth Congress leader Mohammed Haris Nalapad brutally assaulting a businessman, the police from the Udupi City station have filed a case against a local Congress corporator for allegedly beating up two youths in their twenties black and blue.

 

The incident took place at Gundibailu in Shivalli on Sunday.

Ramesh Poojary, corporator from Gundibailu, Udupi City Municipal Council, assaulted two youths – Ganesh Acharya and his brother Pranesh Acharya – after they had an argument over felling a tree in a property belonging to the Acharya family.


The Acharya family resides in Herga. It also owns a property in Gundibailu. According to the police complaint, a friend informed Ganesh that the corporator had been felling a tree in his Gundibailu property. Ganesh, who grew furious over this, rushed to the venue along with his younger brother. He questioned Ramesh as to how he could axe the tree without his family’s permission as the tree belonged to them. Miffed over it, the corporator hurled abuses at Ganesh and then held him by his collar before slapping him.

Ganesh, in his complaint, further stated that Ramesh also assaulted him and his brother with stones and posed death threats. A few accomplices of Ramesh, Prakash Poojary and Praveen among others, too, hit the two brothers with stones. The accused also destroyed their mobile phones and snatched their gold chains.


Police said the duo has sustained internal injuries and wounds on the outside as well. The corporator and his accomplices have been booked under IPC Sections 341, 323, 324, 427, 447, 504, 506, 394 and 149.
