Delivering the protest address, Mr. D’Souza said that the passport office lacks seating facilities, washrooms, canteen, parking lot, and so on, which are essential when passport applicants have to wait for long hours. He also complained that the passport office employees do not know the basics of operating a computer, adding that they are unable to guide applicants on how to apply for passports online in spite of the availability of Internet facilities.

He suggested that the passport office must be moved to the premises of the DC’s office or the taluk office as it does not have even the basic facilities.

Further elaborating on the issue, he said that, although 450 applicants visit the office on a daily basis, they have no place to sit, and often, senior citizens and women have to wait in queues for long hours by the roadside.

He also said that the passport office must have walk-in facilities for passport application, along with a helpline to help applicants, adding that the office can attend to over 600 applicants per day if it has good facilities.

He said that they will send a memorandum to S. M. Krishna, union external affairs minister.

The police, however, prevented the protestors from crashing into the passport office. Finally, passport officers met the protestors and said that their demands will be forwarded to the regional office.

Ashraf and Shashidhar Hegde, former mayors of MCC; T. K. Sudhir, secretary of the district Congress; Gretta Rebello, corporator; Mithun Rai and Praveenchandra Alva, leaders of the Youth Congress; and many other Congress workers took part in this protest.
