Congress party observes 20th death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi

Mangalore, May 21: The workers of the Congress party (Mangalore unit) paid their respects to late Rajiv Gandhi, the former prime minister of India, on his 20th death anniversary.

 

A special programme was organized this morning by the DKDCC and the Youth Congress at the office of the DKDCC in Mangalore.

MLA B. Ramanath Rai, the president of the district Congress, and Ivan D’Souza, the secretary of the KPCC, and many other Congress leaders offers bouquets of flowers to the late prime minister. 


In his address, Mr. Rai spoke about the various revolutionary schemes launched by Rajiv Gandhi in the fields of education and technology. He lauded Rajiv Gandhi as one of the makers of modern India.


Speaking in appreciation of Rajiv Gandhi and his mother Indira Gandhi, he said that they would certainly have been able to solve the political crisis in Karnataka in no time if they were alive. He also remembered Rajiv Gandhi’s visit to Mangalore, a day before his death. 


Speaking in praise of Rajiv Gandhi, MLA U. T. Khader said that the former prime minister could make the implementation of the Universal Adult Franchise possible only through sheer grit and determination in the face of opposition from the BJP and other parties. 


Mamatha Gatti, Ashraf, Suresh Ballal, Badruddin, Ibrahim Kodijal, and others were also present.
