Congress is regaining its popularity in DK: Ramanath Rai

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 19: Ramanath Rai, MLA of Bantwal and president of the District Congress Committee, declared during a press conference held at the party office on May 19, Wednesday that Gram Panchayath (GP) candidates supported by the Congress have bagged at least 1649 GP seats out of the total 3,208 in DK district during the recent GP elections. This proves that the Congress is once again gaining popularity among the people of the district, he added.

He said that the BJP has converted people’s expectations into frustration. The BJP’s failure in the GP polls, he opined, was because of the failure of the BJP-led state government. The results of the GP elections also prove that people prefer either BJP or Congress and are least interested in other parties or policies, he declared.

Listing out the “achievements” of the Congress, Rai said that the state government led by SM Krishna had increased grants for the GPs from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, adding that the GPs have been deprived of their rights after the defeat of the Congress. He also accused the BJP of providing APL cards to poor people and BPL cards to upper and middle class people.

Declaring that only the Congress can solve the problems of the GP, he said that the rural people have taught the BJP a good lesson for adopting anti-farmer, anti-poor, and pro-rich policies.

MLA U. T. Khader, MLA Abhay Chandra Jain, Ivan D’Souza, and other Congress leaders were also present for the press conference.
