Congress gearing up for civic polls; 3 panels formed: Poojari

Mangalore, Feb 20, 2013: Senior Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhan Poojari has announced the formation of three committees to oversee the selection of candidates and prepare the party  for the upcoming local  body elections.

Speaking to reporters here on February 20, Wednesday, Poojari said  the party was gearing up for the polls and added that the election publicity committee will have 21 members, while the candidate selection committee and manifesto committee will have 29 and 19 members each respectively.

 

 

Poojari also claimed that  all leaders were taken into confidence while forming the committees  and that the selection of members for the committees was made unanimously. The committee comprises of  B Ramanatha Rai, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Abhaychandra Jain, K Vasant Bangera, U T Khader, B A Mohideen, K M S Masood, B Ibrahim, Vijaykumar Shetty, Ivan D’Souza, Mohan P V, Mohammed Badruddin, Kallige Taranath Shetty, Ibrahim Kodijal, K Suresh Ballal, B H Khader, Harikrishna Bantwal, B S Mamatha Gatti, Mithun Rai, B A Mohiuddin Bava, Ashith Pereira, Padmanabh Naringana, Arun Kuvelho, J R Lobo, Shashidhar Hegde, Deepak Poojary, Ashok D K, Naveen D’Souza and Kripa Alva.

On the selection of candidates for the elections, Poojari made it clear that only hard working candidates will be considered as it was a very important election for the party. Zonal and district committees will be taken into confidence while selection, he said and added Congress will contest for all seats in Mangalore.The candidates list will be finalized before February 23, he said.

Several leaders including Mayor Gulzar Banu,  UT Khader, MLA, Mithun Rai, PV Mohan, JR Lobo,  Badruddin, Ivan D’Souza, TK Sudhir were present.
