Mangaluru, Feb 15, 2017: Congress candidates have emerged victorious in the bypolls to the Chembugudde and Kallapu wards of the Ullal City Municipal Council, elections for which were held on February 12. The results were announced on February 15, Wednesday.
Basil D’Souza, sitting Congress councillor retained his seat in Chembugudde. He defeated BJP’s Satish by a margin of 451 votes. If Basil secured 600 votes Satish managed to get only 149 votes. On the other hand Harish Shetty of CPM and Kalandar an independent candidate managed to secure just 78 and 57 votes respectively.
Meanwhile, in Kallapu ward the winner was Usman Kallapu who bagged 410 votes as against BJP’s Chandrahas Pandithouse who could get only 226 votes. As for the rest, Dinaker Ullal, an independent candidate secured 240 votes which was more than the votes secured by BJP candidate. Ismail Shafi, a JD(S) candidate could get just 29 votes.
