Confiscated Drugs worth 16 Lakhs Destroyed

Mangaluru Mar 22, 2016:As per the court orders the district administration destroyed ganja, charas, heroin, and brown sugar worth Rs 16 lakh at Nehru Maidan on Monday Mar 21.

Drugs were destroyed which was seized in 17 cases between 2008 till present. A total of 6.840 kg ganja, 960 gram heroin, 950 gram brown sugar and 1.130 Kg charas were set on fire in the presence of the members of the committee formed under the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance (Karnataka) Act 1985.

Drugs which were seized were disposed of by the court, several packets of ganja set on blaze at Nehru Maidan.

Speaking to the press District Commissioner AB Ibrahim said that, drugs have been confiscated publicly so that to create awareness among the people about the consequence of drug abuse especially among youths.

 Through this people must stay away from ganja and other drugs and make this society drug free, he requested.Dakshina Kannada District Excise Deputy Commissioner LA Manjunath said that, Drug abuse is asocial evil, as per the order of the court, ganja which was seized in 17 cases between 2008 to present were destroyed.

Dakshina Kannada district and session judge Uma MG, Excise Joint Commissioner Rajendra Prasad, Police Commissioner Chandra Shekar, ADC Kumar and other officials were present.
