Udupi: September 23, 2015: Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, said on Tuesday that there would be an annual check-up of all fair price shops providing free rice under the Anna Bhagya Scheme in the Udupi Assembly Constituency.
He was speaking after inaugurating the meeting of owners of fair price shops, cooperative societies and five-member vigilance committees formed to monitor the functioning of fair price shops, organised by the Department of Food and Civil Supplies here.
Mr. Madhwaraj said that there were 45 fair price shops in Udupi Assembly Constituency. The vigilance committees were formed to check any irregularities in the distribution of rice under the Anna Bhagya Scheme. “We do not want the rice under this scheme to be sold in the black market or find its way to the hotels,” he said.
