Moodbidri, Nov 14, 2014: The 11th edition of Alva’s Nudisiri-2014, a literary and cultural conference was inaugurated by eminent Kannada writer Na D’Souza at a spectacular ceremony here on November 14, Friday.
In his inaugural address, Na D’Souza said he was immensely pleased to inaugurate Nudisiri which has contributed a great deal towards promoting art, literature and culture. Pointing out at the criticisms faced by Nudisiri, he observed that such events aimed at a good cause should never be discouraged.
Eminent write Dr Siddalingaiah who is chairing the 11th Edition of Nudisiri regretted the undue importance attached to English while ignoring Kannada. Every citizen of this land should realise that religions and languages aim at uniting people, he said. Expressing his deep regret over the prevalence of superstitious practices even in the modern day society, he urged the government to put a check to the same.
Referring to the rising cases of crimes on women, Siddalingaiah pointed out that degeneration of moral values has led to the same.
The Sammelan Chairperson did not forget to appreciate the efforts of Dr M Mohan Ala, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation in offering free education to students from economically backward families.
Dr Mohan Alva, Abhayachandra Jain, State Minister for Youth Services, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Amarnath Shetty, former minister, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Supriya D Shetty, President of Moodbidri TMC and several others were present.
