Mangaluru, Jan 25, 2015 : The 66th Republic Day was celebrated in the city with patriotic fervour on January 26, Monday. At the formal function held at Nehru Maidan, DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai unfurled the national tri-colour.
The minister inspected the colourful parade by the police, NCC, NSS and Bharat Seva Dal volunteers and received the guard of honour.
In his Republic Day address, the minister emphasised the need for each and every individual of the nation to honour the Constitution and discharge their fundamental rights and duties in the true spirit. India’s secular fabric can be protected only when people cutting across all faiths and beliefs live in harmony, he further added.
The Minister also elaborated on the various developmental projects taken up by the state government in Dakshina Kannada.
AB Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner, Amrit Paul, IGP of Western Range, Murugan, City Police Commissioner, Dr Sharanappa, SP, Tulasi Maddineni, ZP CEO, Hepshiba Rani Korlapati, MCC Commissioner, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, JR Lobo, Moidin Bava, MLAs, Roy Castelino, Konkani Academy President, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President and others were present.
As many as five government employees were conferred with Sarvottam Awards for commendable services. Winners in essay and drawing competitions were also awarded.
