Belthangady, July 29, 2014:  A second B.Com student of the Punjalakatte Government Degree College has died under suspicious circumstances at Belalu on July 27, Sunday night. Her body was found in a well  near her house at  around 8 pm.

shobithaThe girl Shobhitha (19)  who  was the daughter of Kantappa Poojari of Adarshanagar in Belalu had left home at around 6.30 pm saying she would go to a neighbour’s house to watch TV.

It is learnt, she was with the neighbouring old lady watching TV for some time and  left the place after asking for some flower plant.

That she went missing came to light only after 7 pm. After a thorough search her body was found floating in an unused well near the neighbour’s house.

Shobhitha was said to be good in studies and  had stood first in her school in tenth standard exams despite studying under the light of kerosene lamp.

Though at the outset it seems to be a case of suicide, locals are not ready to accept this theory. According to them there was no reason for Shobhitha to commit suicide and add this might be a case of planned murder.

The post-mortem has been conducted in a  hospital in Mangalore. Belthangady Tahsildar, Circle Inspector  Lingappa Poojari and SI Prakash Devadiga have visited the spot. A case of unnatural death has been registered.
