Mangaluru, Nov 8, 2016: As per reports, ’wintry’ weather seems to have arrived in Mangaluru city early. The city recorded one of lowest minimum temperature of the decade on Nov 7, Monday with mercury dipping to 20 C. In fact, minimum temperatures have seen a dip all along the coast with Honnavar in Uttara Kannada recording 7.8 C, which is 5 degree C less from the normal minimum for the November month.
Karwar also recorded lower temperature than Mangaluru at 18.9 C, a departure of 4 C from the mean minimum of 22.2 C. Honnavar and Karwar have seen its minimum temperatures dipping since November 4 and from the past two days, it has been more unlike Mangaluru.
The lowest minimum temperature recorded in this decade for Mangaluru city at Panambur observatory was 17.5 C on November 25, 2007, followed by 19.6 C on November 19, 2005. The next was 20.0 C on November 30 in 2004.
On Nov 7, Monday, mercury dipped to 20.5 C, the fourth lowest in the decade. The all-time lowest temperature recorded for Mangaluru was 16.6 C on November 19, 1974. The mean minimum temperature for November since 1961, according to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has been 22.6 C.
However, the maximum temperatures have not gone down from the mean 32.7 C. In fact, it was higher at 33 C on Nov 6, Sunday. The highest daytime temperature recorded for the city in the November month has been 36.8 o C on November 3, 2008. In Karwar and Honnavar, maximum temperatures have been steady at the mean maximum of 33.5 C and 33.4 C, respectively. The minimum is recorded at Panambur weather observatory at 8.30 am and the maximum at 5.30 pm.
