Udupi, Apr 19, 2018 : Speaking to media on April 18, Wednesday, Udupi  District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj brushed aside all speculations about discontent  among party workers. He instead stated that the Congress party in Udupi Assembly constituency would unitedly counter the opponent.

pramod 19 apr 18The minister said that he has the experience of canvassing as he is contesting for the fourth time. There is no basis for accusations that he is canvassing for himself and not in the name of the party. He added that the party is above him and as there is no dissatisfaction at any level, one should realise that the party is united. He said that several meetings are held at all levels including the grass root levels. However, there is no displeasure expressed by any member in these meetings.

He said that he would bank on only his work, the party’s popularity and the service offered to the public and would not fear the opponent whoever it may be.

Expressing his displeasure over the stringent election poll code of conduct, the minister said that elections in the democracy are something to be celebrated and not to be restricted. He said that the restrictions should be only on luring voters and unethical means. He added that the present scenario has led to a gloomy ambiance as poll campaigning should be something to the decree of the political parties that should be abiding by the ethical rules and regulations. Most of the restrictions in place seem to be absurd, he said. However, he was hopeful that it will surely not affect the voting percentage as he felt people are very keen to choose their representative.

He declined to comment on the ongoing tussle within the party in Karkala Assembly constituency. However, he said that there are various layers in the process of decision making and that the party would be embarking on thorough information to ensure victory. He expressed confidence that the differences within the party would be sorted out at the earliest.

Elaborating on the poll manifesto, the minister said that an assurance for including the execution of Varahi irrigation project has been given. The project is planned for Rs 270 crore. The 40 km length project is in the tendering process. The project would solve the water problem in the city limits. Multi villages drinking water schemes which are already proposed would aim at solving the drinking water problems in rural areas. He added that a medical college, along with a hi-tech government hospital, would be a reality at Brahmavar. The title deeds would be given under Parambaku and Gomala land as assured. He added that houses for homeless needy under 94C and 94CC will be given. He said that roads and drainages wherever required would be built.

Stating that he will be filing the nominations on April 23, he said that a huge rally of Udupi Assembly constituency will be organised on April 22. He said hopefully Congress leaders in the district Vinay Kumar Sorake, Gopal Bhandari, Pratapchandra Shetty, M A Gafoor, Rakesh Malli and Uday Kumar Shetty Muniyalu are expected to participate.
