Udupi, April 25: Pejawar seer Vishweshatheertha Swamiji said either Nandikur region should be made suitable for living by clearing the pollution or the thermal power plant should be suspended in the region.


 

Of the two, the government should select any one alternative. “If the government fails to come to a conclusion, then with the help of the people, I will intensify the protest,” the seer said.


The expert committee which will look into the pollution at UPCL should be headed by Environment Minister Krishna Palemar and environment expert Ramachandra should be vice-president.  The expert committee should include those who have been suggested by the seer. They are Prof T V Ramachandra of Centre for Ecological Science, Bangalore, Dr Sagardhara of Serena Foundation, Hyderabad. The committee should be given time bound and should given a guidelines on which they have to undertake the study and submit the report to the government, he added. The government has constituted six member committee to look into the pollution at UPCL site. They are Dr Subhash Yaragatti, Prof G Sriniketan (NITK, Surathkal), Dr A Ganesh, Dr Jayadev Bhat (MIT, Manipal), senior official from State Pollution Control Board and forest department.
