Mangalore, Nov 14, 2014: Children’s Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the city and the district as elsewhere in the nation. The celebrations gain much more prominence this year as it is the 125th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. At a ceremony held in the city earlier in the day, Mayor Mahabala Maarla paid floral tributes to the statue of Nehru.
Children from various schools, teachers and officials were present. Almost all those present were seen wearing Gandhi topis.
Children’s Film Fest : A Children’s Film Festival organised as part of Children’s day has begun at the New Chitra Theatre in the city and Aruna Theatre in Puttur. Children’s films will be screened during the fest organised by the Children’s Film Academy Bangalore, DK District Administration, Information and Publicity Department and Public Education Department.
The films will be screened from 8.30 am to 10.30 am for children free of cost. Several children’s films from across the globe are being screened as part of the fest.
