Mangalore, July 2: The Mangalore branch of the South India Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (SIRC of ICAI) celebrated chartered accountants day on July 1, Thursday with DK Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj as the chief guest. Speaking about the important role played by chartered accountants (CAs) in the development of companies, firms, and institutions, he urged CAs to exercise caution in whatever they do citing the example of software company Satyam, which collapsed because of accounting failures.

The DC also called upon accountants to see to it that companies pay taxes as large companies such as Tata and Reliance follow the zero tax paying systems. He pointed out that governments will not be able to survive if large companies do not pay their taxes.

President and Chancellor of NITTE Institute Vinay Hegde was the guest of honor at the event. Defining CAs as the bridge between the company’s stake holders, institutions, and managements and the general public, he called upon CAs to work for the best interests of all.

Giridhar Prabhu of Achal Industries said that students should be given certificates only after five years of practice. Agreeing with the DC, he said that the nation incurs huge losses because of government entities such as the city corporation, which has not done any auditing for the past 11 years. He also pointed out that the government wastes a lot of the budget by unplanned accounting.

CA Chandramohan K. Y. welcomed the gathering. S. Shrinivas Kamath, Murali Mohan, and many other CAs were present for the meeting.
