Mangaluru, July 7, 2016: The century old famous Kapu light house a popular tourist spot was affected due to sea erosion. The light house was built by the British trinity house, on a characteristic rock on the sea water line at the shore of Kapu about 150 years ago. Turbulent waves and high tides are lashing the base of the light house. There is also a danger to the approach road.
The Arabian Sea has encroached the shore more than 160 meters and is inundated by the waves. The light house seems to be in the sea now with the rock and base covered by the sea. Tourists and unauthorized public must be kept away from the spot.
The situation has been gradually aggravated in the last few years, The local MLA and former minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake has requested the government to construct a protection wall before monsoon so that sea erosion may be prevented. No action has been taken in this regard as yet.
