In a memorandum submitted to Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Venkatachalpathy, office-bearers of the Indian Medical Association, Mangaluru, asked the West Bengal government to take steps to arrest persons involved in the attack on doctors in NRS Hospital and those who lit fire at a hostel of MBBS students in Kolkata.

The IMA Mangaluru earlier held a protest meeting at the IMA hall around noon with members sporting black badges. In the night, doctors held a candlelight protest.

In Udupi, members of the Udupi-Karavali unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) protested by wearing black badges . A delegation of the IMA, led by president, P.S. Gurumoorthy Bhat, later met the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Vidya Kumari, and submitted a memorandum to her.

In the memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah the IMA demanded a national law against hospital violence. Such a law should be enacted as incidents of assaults on doctors doing their duty were increasing, the memorandum said.
