He remarked that the minorities’ development officials in all the districts gave vague answers to his queries. None of them could provide accurate answers and present the relevant documents, he alleged.

He also informed that the central government has introduced 15 programmes for the welfare of the minorities. As per some of these schemes, the minorities are entitled to receive more resources for the learning of Urdu, modern facilities in madarasas and high quality education, scholarships to students belonging to the minority communities, loans for commercial activities, and many more.

He requested the authorities concerned to provide proof of various educational programmes implemented for girls of minority communities in Puttur, Belthangady, Bantwal, and Mangalore. He said that a number of training programmes have been organized for the parents and students of minority communities; however, owing to lack of interest and cooperation on the part of the authorities concerned, none of them have borne fruit. Kureshi appreciated the fact that guest lectures were organized in about 15 colleges in the past 6 months.

Ramesh Kumar, the assistant superintendent of police, said that cases of communal clash, moral policing, and attacks on the members of minority communities have come down recently.

Padma Jain, Anthony D Fernandes, Shahila Begum, Bonthe Volidanthe, and Jagadish Chandra Shetty were also present at the meeting.
